Assessments

Discuss how you will assess student work.

There are many forms of assessments to use in the classroom. As a teacher I will use my assessments to guide my students learning experiences. The assessment process is designed to help guide the teaching and learning process, not just to evaluate where a student is in his or her knowledge acquisition. I will use a mix between formative and summative assessments. "Formative assessment can take the form of a quiz, anecdotal notes written by teachers or students, reflective journals, short tests and quizzes, homework, and assignments. " (Newman.2013. Chap.11Sec.3.para.4) "Summative assessments can also take the form of examinations, final exams, term papers, course projects, portfolios, or even final performances. " (Newman.2013. Chap.11.Sec.3.para.7)

                         Describe how you will provide students opportunities to succeed.

I will provide my students opportunities to succeed on a daily basis. I will implement a flexible classroom management plan that will be geared around them being leaders in the classroom. According to  Newman 2013  students of well-managed classrooms outperform those in classes that are not effectively run (Marzano, Marzano, & Pickering, 2003). I will have procedures in place for possible distractions and disturbances.

As a teacher I will hold my students to a higher standard. We will have a classroom pledge that list all the expectations that they must follow. I expect them to be respectful, responsible and safe at all times. I expect them to complete all assigned task, come to class on time, and be prepared for class. I expect them to use quiet voices in the classroom and listen to all instructions and directions. I expect them to keep their hands and feet to themselves at all times, walk at all times as well. By giving clear expectations to the students they know what is expected of them.

Describe how you will meet the social and emotional needs of your students including ways to eliminate student fear of failure.
In order to meet the social and emotional needs of my students they must first feel safe in the environment they are in. I will allow them to express their emotions and feelings in the moment that they feel them. I will give them the tools to express them properly, whether they are sad or mad. Creating a environment where it is loving, and fun. This will create a high functioning classroom.

The first step to creating a positive learning environment would be to create a bond or connection with your students. Make your students feel like you care about them and what happens to them. Start a daily ritual with your class.

That creates a connection with you and your students. I will create an environment where my students are free to express their thoughts and opinions. My classroom will be a student-centered classroom. Meaning that the students are in total control, the teacher is just the facilitator." In a student-centered classroom, students participate in and construct their learning in an encouraging environment. (Newman.2013.  Chap.4.Sec.3.para.1)

What I believe differentiation to be is allowing the students the opportunity to learn in more diverse Classroom. It starts with making an effort to get to know the students and parents on a more personal level. After interacting with them and their families you can teaching them according to what learning styles that they fit in and about their strengths and weaknesses. It is impossible to teach all the students the same way .  Differentiation ensures that no student gets left behind. According to Vygotsky, students learn best when moderately challenged and should, thus, be instructed in their zones of proximal development the range of learning between what is too easy and what is too difficult to accomplish. Differentiation specifically responds to progress on the learning continuum and helps to bridge what students already know with what they need to learn (Heacox, 2002).
